The conversation we shared reminded us both that the life we expect is often overrated. It often parallels control, safety, independence. When the unexpected rocks us, we have no choice but to operate from a "one-day, one breath at a time" place - things are changing & dying that we didn't see coming.
There's a song from Natalie Grant called, "Alive." Favorite line from it is...
"The Lamb of God who rolled away the stone in front of every grave."
Love this definition of grave:
Any place that becomes a space for the dead, lost, or past.
God sees in us. Sees what things we need to let go of... let die, bury in the grave - in order to have more richness, more truth. That transition hurts, often a season we wouldn't wish upon anyone but after enduring one, we wouldn't trade it for anything.
I sat this morning on a hard wooden floor in our empty dining room staring out a sun filled window. In that stillness, with the raw conversation from my friend still lingering in my heart... I knew that my days have become a bit too expected... was reminded to let loose and shift so freely and gently to the One who has good plans for me, whose grip holds us all.
He is worthy of our trust.
