Linking Up

Joining my favorite blogger on a NY's link up.

Here are the questions:

1. What is something you want to change, or a goal you want to set for the New Year, and what is your plan for making it happen?

I saw this on pinterest not too long ago...

It struck me mostly because the verse I'd been chewing on for a good week or 2 prior was:
1 Thes. 4:11 Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands.

I went to a wonderful counselor during a dark time in my life.  Not dark as in scary or bad, dark as in literally couldn't see.  It was like "life" as I'd known it or built it to be was being pulled out from under me and I had no vision of what was happening and where I was going... someone turned the lights off!  A good counselor helps you find the light for your path and a good counselor I found!

It was one of our first of many sessions when she told me, "Shannon I think you hear the Lord but then when you are confronted w/ certain people in your life you are easily swayed."  She drew a visual for me of a straight up and down line - me to God... so strong until any horizontal line came at me (me with other people) and then that vertical line fades out of the picture.

I remember thinking, "You don't even know me, how could you say something so strong about me."  But as years have passed, I've seen the truth in her analogy & her words of wisdom.

I've had this goal on my mind plenty of times before, people pleasing feels like such a natural bent for me... so a goal of not being swayed by what other's think is nothing new... except for the fact that I'm tired of having this goal... I'm expectant for healing.

2.  Many people choose a word to reflect on, live by, or aspire to for the New Year.  Let us know your word, how you decided upon it, and how you hope to incorporate it into 2014.

My 2014 word:  COUNSELOR
Chad and I saw a preview for the movie, Noah, and a snip it caught me and stuck that said, "Trust God speaks to you in a way you understand."  Goodness.  Yes.  If you're carving out time and reading his Word, trust that in the hours that follow, moments in your day will arise, his voice will speak to you in a way so personal that it was him carving it out for you, and counsel of the sweetest kind will fill you full.

I just want to hear him & that means girls gotta start showing up for the sessions.

For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, & the government will be on his shoulders.  And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

3.  I will make 2014 count by... this feels like a loaded question - what does it look like when something "counts" - life as I've experienced it has taught me - I don't have a clue - my ways not like his... so gonna not worry if my days are "counting" - just gonna trust against all my eyes may see that God is faithful and true to his promise and let that be enough for me too.

Field free ongoing, wheat waving
The shovel valleys untouched earth
Treasure found laid down
Planted to reap harvests unknown
All else so worth letting go

Inspired from Matthew 13:44
